The Sandpit

The Sandpit is a young, fast-paced, entrepreneurial business structured to support a small number of exciting tech businesses to grow. We provide Strategy, Sales and Marketing, HR, Legal and Finance support as well as physical office space. The young and social team has grown rapidly in the last year and we are now looking to increase the Finance team to provide more dynamic reporting to The Sandpit and its portfolio companies.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Financial Controller and the CFO. you will be extremely organised, have a great attention to detail and be excellent at problem solving or knowing when to ask for help. It is a very broad and diverse role which provides an introduction to all finance disciplines. Suited to a person who is willing to learn and is likely to be studying for their professional qualifications. Like all small businesses, at times it is all hands to deck so you must be prepared to help out the whole team as and when it’s required.

Accounts

  • Maintenance of the Company’s accounting system (Xero) through efficient data inputs, invoicing and reconciliations
  • Manage all statutory record keeping of invoices, banking and HMRC documentation
  • Ensure Xero is up to date with the correct level of detail and notation for the production of the Statutory Accounts by the external accountant (external accountant responsible for VAT return production and submission).
  • Maintain and oversee all Inter Company adjustments

Credit Control

  • Responsible for credit control in all The Sandpit Companies which will include creating and uploading sales invoices
  • Maintaining a well documented credit control process
  • Chasing payments at the same time as maintaining good commercial relationships with the nominated client representative

Cash Flow Management

  • Daily monitoring, reconciliation and control over cash and credit card payments and bank accounts
  • Updating the three month rolling cash forecast

Management Accounting

  • Supporting the creation and development of reporting models
  • Developing standardised budget templates and uploading into Xero
  • Collaborate with external accountants for the production and timely delivery of monthly management accounts
  • Providing bank and credit card files, following up unreconciled items and correcting mis-postings

Company Secretarial

  • Maintain details of each company’s investors and their holdings
  • Prepare Board Minutes for share allotments and transfers
  • Managing the completion and submission of all HMRC S/EIS documentation
  • Responsible for distributing all investor documentation and share certificates

Stakeholder Management

  • First Finance point of contact for The Sandpit and all Portfolio Companies
  • Supporting the Portfolio Companies in all finance related matters and projects
  • Working closely with and supporting external partners

Qualification and skills/attributes

  • 2-3 years experience in a previous finance role
  • An accountancy qualification is desirable, but not essential
  • Strong communication and analytical skills
  • Strong IT skills, particularly in Excel
  • Personable with strong relationship management skills to ensure high levels of engagement across business users and with external parties
  • Enthusiastic and self-motivated and comfortable working in a small and dynamic environment
  • Organised, thorough and resilient under pressure
  • Experience of Xero preferred but not essential
  • Experience of working within a small business
